From acquisition to Nordic ambition
When BabySam acquired Swedish BabyWorld in 2024, it was far more than a classic market expansion. The acquisition marked the beginning of a clear Nordic ambition: to develop BabySam from a strong Danish retail chain into a scalable business across the Nordic region. The ambition is evident. The number of stores in Sweden is set to double over the coming years, and the Swedish operation already plays a central role in the overall growth strategy.
But growth across multiple countries requires more than new store signage. It requires a digital foundation that can support operations, customer experiences, and future acquisitions. Therefore, the integration of BabyWorld was not just a branding and organizational task, but also a strategic technological decision. One shared setup would unify the business and create cohesion across markets—both now and in future growth phases.
One shared platform – and one shared foundation
Following the acquisition of BabyWorld, we brought both the Swedish and Danish operations onto the same Bizzkit Commerce Cloud platform. This ensures the most seamless and scalable solution possible for BabySam. The Bizzkit platform can easily support multiple brands, markets, products, and touchpoints. This shifts BabySam’s focus from how to when: When is the right time to expand next? Because the digital foundation is fully in place.
However, it is not only about development, but also about partnership. We have worked closely with BabySam since 2017 and built a strong webshop together for the Danish market. The trust we have developed has been essential in building a solution capable of handling an entirely new market. Entering a new country requires a strong foundation—one that is just as much about relationships as it is about technology.
Ready for the next Nordic step
With Sweden becoming a growing pillar of the business and a shared digital infrastructure in place, BabySam is now better equipped for the next step. BabySam’s CEO, Kenneth Nørgaard, has openly pointed to Norway as an attractive consolidation market.
This is where the value of a shared platform becomes clear. When the foundation is built correctly from the beginning, entering new markets and making acquisitions becomes a matter of strategy and timing—not system changes and technical debt. There will, of course, always be some work involved in transferring and standardizing data, but the major steps have already been taken. When BabySam makes its next acquisition, they will quickly be able to launch a version of their web shop tailored to the next market.
